Abstract

We present the results of an investigation carried out in 3rd and 6th grade portuguese classrooms that identify the dimensions that integrate the knowledge of the topics (con- tent), the teacher, when teaches the repro- duction of plants. For this purpose, video and audio recordings were made. The information was treated with content analysis and contras- ted with the existing literature in a top-down Bottom-up methodological perspective. Five aspects of different natures were identified, all related to the knowledge of the content: i) concepts of biology and associated examples; ii)laws, principles and theories of biology; iii) procedures and techniques of observation in biology; iv)models related to the concept of biology and v)biological facts and phenomena.
