Invited researchers;
Academic or scientific institutions.
The proposal should include:
Title of the special issue;
Justification and scientific relevance;
Thematic scope;
List of suggested topics;

Proposals will be evaluated by the Editorial Board, considering:
Alignment with the scope of the journal;
Scientific relevance and timeliness of the theme;
Qualifications of the invited editors;
Potential for attracting quality manuscripts.
Final approval rests with the Editor-in-Chief.
4. Guest Editors
Each special issue may have one or more guest editors, responsible for:
Assisting in the dissemination of the call for papers;
Suggesting reviewers;
Monitoring the editorial process.
Guest editors:
Do not have the final decision on article acceptance;
Must strictly adhere to the journal's ethical guidelines;
Cannot act as editors of their own manuscripts.
5. Submission and Evaluation Process
All manuscripts submitted to special issues:
Must be original and unpublished;
Will undergo double-blind peer review;
Will be evaluated using the same criteria as regular issues;
E&S adopts an open science policy.
The final publication decision rests with the Editor-in-Chief or designated editor.
6. Ethics and Integrity
Special issues fully adhere to the journal's ethics policy, including:
Prevention of plagiarism;
Conflicts of interest;
Integrity in peer review.
7. Schedule
Each special issue must follow a pre-defined schedule, including:
Call for papers launch;
Submission deadline;
Evaluation period;
Publication.
Failure to meet deadlines may result in:
Adjustments to the schedule;
Incorporation of articles into the regular issue.
8. Publication
Approved articles may be published:
In a dedicated special volume/issue; or
Continuously, with thematic identification.
9. Fees and Costs
E&S does not charge publication fees.
10. Special Issues Related to Conferences, Congresses, and Symposia
Special issues in this category must have a minimum of 3 articles and a maximum of 10 articles;
The selection criteria for the articles mentioned in the previous item will be determined according to what is established between the editor-in-chief of E&S and the organizing committee of the event;
The selected articles must comply with the editorial policies of E&S and be submitted via the submission system;
If the minimum number of articles (three) for a special issue is not reached, the submitted articles may be published in a regular issue of E&S;
In order to prevent self-plagiarism, articles from special issues related to scientific events may NOT be published in the proceedings of the events, and the authors must be informed of this when invited to submit to said issues;
Once the selected articles have already been evaluated for acceptance into the scientific event, it is at the discretion of the editor-in-chief of E&S whether further revisions are necessary;
The minimum number of pages for submission to this journal will be determined between the Editor-in-Chief and the organizing committee of the scientific event, but must be at least 6 pages. The maximum number of pages must comply with the editorial policy and is therefore 25 pages.
11. Responsibilities
The journal guarantees editorial and scientific quality;
Guest editors collaborate in the process without compromising editorial independence;
Authors are responsible for the originality and integrity of their work.
