Ethical Policies

 

1. General Principles

The Engineering and Science (E&S) Journal is committed to the highest standards of ethics, integrity, and transparency in scientific publishing.

This policy follows the guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics, as well as recommendations from SciELO and CAPES.


2. Responsibilities of Authors

Authors must:

  • Submit original and unpublished work
  • Ensure accuracy and integrity of data and results
  • Clearly describe methods to allow reproducibility
  • Properly cite all sources
  • Include only authors who significantly contributed
  • Declare conflicts of interest

2.1 Plagiarism and Self-Plagiarism

The journal does not tolerate:

  • Plagiarism
  • Self-plagiarism

All manuscripts may be screened using plagiarism detection tools.


3. Responsibilities of Editors

Editors must:

  • Evaluate manuscripts based on scientific merit
  • Ensure confidentiality
  • Avoid conflicts of interest
  • Make transparent and justified editorial decisions
  • Act upon suspected misconduct

4. Responsibilities of Reviewers

Reviewers must:

  • Provide objective and constructive evaluations
  • Maintain confidentiality
  • Declare conflicts of interest
  • Identify possible ethical issues

5. Peer Review Process

The journal adopts peer review as a quality control mechanism, ensuring:

  • Impartiality
  • Traceability of editorial decisions

Open science practices are adopted.


6. Conflicts of Interest

All participants (authors, reviewers, editors) must disclose any financial, institutional, or personal relationships that may influence the work.


7. Scientific Misconduct

Scientific misconduct includes:

  • Data fabrication or falsification
  • Plagiarism
  • Citation manipulation
  • Redundant publication

Cases will be handled according to Scielo (Access).


8. Retractions, Corrections, and Expressions of Concern

The journal may issue:

  • Retractions (serious errors or misconduct)
  • Corrections (minor errors)
  • Expressions of concern (ongoing investigations)

9. Research Involving Humans and Animals

When applicable, authors must:

  • Provide ethics committee approval
  • Follow national and international regulations
  • Ensure informed consent

10. Use of Artificial Intelligence

The use of AI tools must be:

  • Properly disclosed
  • Limited to support functions (not authorship)

Authors remain fully responsible for the content.


11. Copyright and Licensing

Authors retain copyright, in accordance with the journal’s open access policy, using Creative Commons licenses.


12. Complaints and Procedures

Reports of misconduct will be handled with:

  • Confidentiality
  • Impartiality
  • Evidence-based evaluation

13. Policy Updates

This policy will be periodically reviewed to ensure alignment with:

  • COPE
  • SciELO
  • CAPES

14. Author Agreement

By submitting a manuscript, authors agree to comply with this Ethics Policy.
