Abstract

This text addresses the scientific and academic production on drag queens in Brazil, questioning what are the determinants of this production in the last 22 years (2000 to 2022). The research aimed to map, systematize and analyze the number of academic works, such as articles, monographs, dissertations and theses on the subject, in addition to establishing an overview of the national literature. The methodology was qualitative, also using quantitative elements, through documentary and bibliographic research, with an emphasis on Michel Foucault's archeology of knowledge, aiming to understand how knowledge on the subject was shaped and constructed. The results indicate a growth in interest in the subject, with a significant increase in publications between 2017 and 2020. The scientific production stands out for its interdisciplinary approach, crossing areas such as communication, anthropology, psychology and sociology. The study classified the authors into three groups: those who see the drag queen as a force for gender tension, those who explore subjectivities on the margins of discourse, and a third group that analyzes drag as part of theatrical and cultural identity. In the conclusion, the author emphasizes the importance of recognizing the growing interest in studies on drag performance, in addition to valuing academic contributions over the years. The survey conducted serves as a reference for researchers in the area and reflects the complexity of the drag universe in the Brazilian context.
