Abstract

This article presents an account of the experiences of the Mathematical Olympiad of Minas Gerais, an extension project of the Federal University of Minas Gerais, as well as a discussion about the work done and the possibility of favoring mathematically thinking. The objective of this study is to analyze the Mathematical Olympiad of Minas Gerais, based on the notion of the mathematical thinking process. One has as a research problem: To what extent does the Mathematical Olympiad of Minas Gerais favor the formation of mathematical thinking? The methodology used was bibliographic research and unsystematic observation. Some of the activities that were constructed and carried out together with public school teachers are described, aiming at a greater interrelation between the university and the participatory school, the main focus of the actions. We hope to contribute to the teaching of mathematics by presenting the Olympics as a pedagogical tool.
