Abstract

The classroom has undergone remarkable transformations these days and is particularly evident in the adoption of active methodologies and the integration of innovative tools such as serious games. These approaches not only improve teaching and learning processes, but also promote active student participation in the school environment and thus provide a more dynamic and engaging educational experience. In this context, the aim of this research is to present, through a bibliographic survey of the last 16 years, the use and importance of serious games in science teaching at secondary level, published in journals on the Web of Science and Scopus databases. This study, classified as a literature review, was carried out in the first half of 2022 and identified a total of 11 journals that were analyzed using six categories pre-established by the Content Analysis method: main references, scientific concepts, languages used/technologies involved, type of game and audience involved. In short, the results highlight the importance of serious games with different game genres, as well as addressing the difficulties and challenges faced by teachers and students. In addition, possibilities for approaches were identified, with the help of different materials both inside and outside the game, which contributes to better acquisition of scientific content in the Biology, Physics and Chemistry curricula.
